I finally feel OK about his family’s events.

I don’t fit in with his family, but neither does he. They’re a little awkward and less than social, but I do what I can to engage them. I was nervous about the recent wedding and all the things that went along with it.

In the end, it was fine. No one made me feel excluded, I laughed, took photographs, made macarons, cut cake. I talked to everyone and made sure to dazzle them with my personality.

They may not be like mine, but I will continue to make an effort.

  1. That effort with another family is quite a hard thing to put out. Sometimes the biggest hurdle in these things is the re-doing of what you already did once elsewhere. I wonder if anybody can ever “fit in with his [or her] family”? I hope so.

  2. I’ve been with my husband for almost 6 years, and his family all together still makes me very nervous. Every year it gets easier but I’ve never been able to pinpoint why I always feel like I’m walking on eggshells around them. Maybe this is every in-law family.

  3. Hi, I’m visiting from ICLW (#69)… I often feel out of place in my husbands family circle. I try to please, but never feel like I do, I’m glad that you had a better time and people made an effort. Sometimes its the effort that means more than anything else.

  4. I always wonder if I’ll survive hanging out with my DH’s family. It’s always quite the battle for me, but in the end I usually make it. Glad you made it too 🙂

  5. Good to hear things went great at the wedding. I used to feel like the outsider when I would get together with my IL’s but now I feel like one of the family. I guess that is what happens after 10 years (at least for me).
