I finally feel OK about his family’s events.
I don’t fit in with his family, but neither does he. They’re a little awkward and less than social, but I do what I can to engage them. I was nervous about the recent wedding and all the things that went along with it.
In the end, it was fine. No one made me feel excluded, I laughed, took photographs, made macarons, cut cake. I talked to everyone and made sure to dazzle them with my personality.
They may not be like mine, but I will continue to make an effort.

That effort with another family is quite a hard thing to put out. Sometimes the biggest hurdle in these things is the re-doing of what you already did once elsewhere. I wonder if anybody can ever “fit in with his [or her] family”? I hope so.
I’ve been with my husband for almost 6 years, and his family all together still makes me very nervous. Every year it gets easier but I’ve never been able to pinpoint why I always feel like I’m walking on eggshells around them. Maybe this is every in-law family.
Hi, I’m visiting from ICLW (#69)… I often feel out of place in my husbands family circle. I try to please, but never feel like I do, I’m glad that you had a better time and people made an effort. Sometimes its the effort that means more than anything else.
Good for you form kaing the effort. You rose above the problems and survived. 🙂
I am constantly shocked at how different one can be from their family or origin. Shocked.
I always wonder if I’ll survive hanging out with my DH’s family. It’s always quite the battle for me, but in the end I usually make it. Glad you made it too 🙂
macaroons, mmmmm. salivating. Things do have a way of sorting themselves out it seems. (happy ICLW)
Good to hear you were OK
~Stopping by for ICLW #14
Good to hear things went great at the wedding. I used to feel like the outsider when I would get together with my IL’s but now I feel like one of the family. I guess that is what happens after 10 years (at least for me).
